The Devil with Two Tails
The P38 Lighting is one of the most iconic aircraft ever produced. Capable of long range missions with performance to make then enemy think twice before taking it on! It was the aircraft that brought Richard Bong hist status as the allied ‘ace of aces’ of the war with 40 victories to his credit.
This model was made as a commission piece for a visual artist based in France for use within her composite images of models and photographs. It features a cleaner look due to the omission of various markings at the request of the client. It was given a worn look through the dulling of the polished aluminum finish. As with much my work I went for a subtle level of weathering as this is more in keeping nature of the subject. When a piece needs the weathering to tell the story it can be applied, but at all times I try to avoid producing a caricature, instead producing something that at first glance with no reference for scale could be a real aircraft.
